Bsure Raises $2.1M to Help Companies Eliminate Digital Ghost Accounts and Strengthen Identity Security
Oslo-based cybersecurity startup Bsure has raised $2.1 million (approximately €1.8 million) in seed funding to expand its real-time identity governance platform, which helps organizations detect inactive user accounts, cut software license waste and reduce hidden security risks across their Microsoft environments. The round was led by Scale Capital, with participation from existing US investors.
Founded in 2022, Bsure is emerging as a fast-growing solution in the identity security category, with the company reporting more than 200 customers across nine countries in both the public and private sectors. Its rapid adoption reflects a growing problem in modern cloud-first organizations: as user identities, devices and SaaS tools proliferate, companies are losing visibility into who has access to what and what it is costing them.
“We often see that up to 40 percent of user accounts associated with Microsoft systems are inactive,” said Bsure co-founder Henrik Skalmerud. “Vi ser ofte at opptil 40 prosent av brukerkontoene knyttet til Microsoft-systemer er inaktive”: Norwegian translation
The Rise of Digital Ghost Accounts in the Cloud-First Era
As companies scale digitally, identity sprawl has become one of the most persistent and overlooked cybersecurity risks. Employees move roles, leave organizations, or switch departments but their accounts, access privileges and licenses often remain active indefinitely.
These inactive or “ghost” accounts pose two major problems:
- Security risk: Old accounts that go unmanaged are prime targets for attackers.
- License waste: Businesses frequently pay for Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID licenses that are no longer being used.
With many organizations now operating in hybrid environments and relying heavily on SaaS platforms, identity visibility has become fragmented across internal tools, legacy systems and cloud services. This fragmentation creates dangerous blind spots.
Bsure was created to address this problem directly.
A Real-Time Dashboard for Identity, Access and License Visibility
Bsure provides a real-time dashboard that gives organizations a complete overview of user accounts, access privileges, role assignments and software license usage inside Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory).
By visualizing identity data and mapping it against cost and security risk, Bsure turns complex identity sprawl into actionable insights. Key capabilities include:
- Identifying inactive and unprotected accounts
- Detecting unnecessary or unused Microsoft licenses
- Balancing access privileges with actual usage
- Highlighting risky or non-compliant account configurations
- Tracking cost impact of every user identity
The platform helps companies eliminate license waste, Bsure estimates that organizations overspend by an average of 20% on Microsoft 365 licenses alone.
Easy Deployment Without Exposing Customer Data
In a security-conscious market, Bsure’s architecture is a significant differentiator. The product runs as a fully managed Azure application, meaning customer data stays entirely within their own cloud environment and is not exposed to third parties.
This “no external data sharing” approach aligns strongly with modern security frameworks and has contributed to faster adoption across regulated industries, where identity and access governance is tightly controlled.
Bsure also emphasizes simplicity: organizations can get full visibility within 30 minutes, without the setup complexity common in traditional identity governance systems.

Growing Rapidly With Over 200 Customers in Nine Countries
Despite launching just 3 years ago, Bsure reports significant traction:
- 200+ paying customers
- Across 9 countries
- Adoption in both private and public sectors
- Strong growth among cloud-first organizations and Microsoft-centric workplaces
This adoption indicates how widespread identity sprawl, license mismanagement and hidden risk have become. Bsure’s platform is used by organizations seeking both security improvements and cost optimization, giving it relevance across IT, finance and compliance teams.
The company’s customer feedback highlights ease of implementation, cost savings and clearer governance. This is a combination that positions Bsure well in the broader identity landscape.
Seed Funding to Accelerate Team Expansion and Product Development
With the new $2.1 million in seed investment, Bsure plans to expand its team, accelerate product development and enhance its feature set across identity intelligence, automation and governance control.
Scale Capital’s participation reflects increasing investor focus on security tools that address emerging cloud challenges. As identity becomes the new perimeter in cybersecurity, solutions that provide real-time visibility and prevent breaches caused by dormant or misconfigured accounts are gaining prominence.
“We look forward to helping even more companies find and clean up their digital ghosts,” the Bsure team wrote in its announcement.
The Bigger Picture: Identity Governance Is Becoming Mission-Critical
Identity security is now a top priority for CISOs, especially as AI-assisted cyberattacks grow more sophisticated. Compromised or unused accounts are among the most common gateways for unauthorized access, lateral movement and ransomware campaigns. By bringing immediate clarity to identity data and license usage, Bsure is solving a problem that many organizations acknowledge but struggle to address.
Its focus on Microsoft Entra ID makes strategic sense: thousands of organizations depend on Microsoft’s identity platform, yet few have tools to monitor it fully. Bsure enters the market at a time when identity-first security is rapidly becoming industry standard.
Bsure is attacking a highly practical and often neglected layer of cybersecurity: the silent sprawl of unused identities, forgotten licenses and misconfigured access privileges. Its focus on real-time Microsoft Entra ID visibility positions it squarely within one of the most critical areas of modern security.
However, the platform’s long-term success will depend on expanding beyond detection towards deeper automation, remediation and multi-cloud coverage. If Bsure can maintain its simplicity while scaling its capabilities, it has the potential to become a core identity governance tool for cloud-first organizations worldwide.
